2006 Honda Civic LX - TSI Turbo Kit (just some reference info)

HDS Datalogging

Here is the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) datalogging (these are only a few of the nearly 100 parameters we can see...red is RPM, but you can't see that on the legend.  This just gives you a sense of what I can see.  It's worth mentioning that this data has to be taken with an understanding that this is what is given to the FIC; so that means while it may say the fuel injector is given a 2.5 ms pulse, this is actually what is shown to the FIC and the FIC adjusts this value and outputs it to the injectors with it's own internal drivers.  Also, spark is the same.  While it says it might be running 20 degrees timing, the FIC modifies the crank position signal to make the coil drivers fire later than it would normally (so that you can dial in 10 degrees of retard based on boost and it will modify the crank position signal to create the retard you want).  The scary thing is that there is no feedback loop that I can see that shows you absolutely that it's sparking at the right time.... and because we are seeing some significant knock, it makes me nervous.  Perhaps the knock sensor is too sensitive (which we know it is sensitive).  Thing is we saw knock running 9 psi on 93 octane fuel at 5 deg btdc absolute timing.... and that doesn't make sense.  That's REALLY conservative timing that won't make ANY combustion pressure until well after TDC... so something feels weird there.  As a tuner, I am the one that has to KNOW what's going on and ask these sorts of questions.  I'd like to try our combustion analysis equipement to see what is actually happening, but I haven't had enough time with the car to do this.

AEM FIC

Here is the FIC Datalogging.  Shows interesting modifiers.  This is startup btw...not the same as the HDS datalog period above.  Note the box that is highlighted in the spreadsheet shows when the starter is engaged (battery spikes low).  Then notice how MAF shows airflow but RPM is not yet recognized.  Also not the "time" column that shows how little time passes through this screen.

You have to page down several pages to see the rpm start to show and then the fuel injectors immediately fire.  Notice that the injectors fire a tenth of a second after seeing rpm.  This is what the HDS shows as well.

Here is a chart of the above data for your reference.

So, this is all just for reference.  Please visit the discussion on this and more data online at:
