Is your ECU Chippable?

Only ECU's with part numbers ending in L09, A09, or C00 are socketable/chippable (part numbers ending in A040 or A080 and not chippable). These ECU's are found in Civic Si/EX and CRX Si after July 1989 (ECU's are stamped with a date). Please confirm you have a socketable ecu before shipping it to us. 1988 and early 1989 ECU's are not socketable/chippable.  Note: Many ebay sellers are shipping non-chippable ECU's in cases that appear to be chippable ECU's; so be sure you see a picture of the ECU on ebay or confirm with the selling the it has the proper board inside).  I've received 3 "wrong" boards in the past year from ebay sellers; so make sure for yourself.

If needed, you can confirm your ECU can be chipped by opening the top cover of the case and confirming the board inside looks like the one below.  Note that the screws can be hard to remove; so use a small pair of vise-grips or similar strong plyers-type tool to remove the stubborn screws if necessary (this happens in approx 10% of cases).

If it looks like the one below, then you are out of luck.
